Fairfax County Civil Stormwater Management Task Contract Little Hunting Creek Watershed, Fairfax County, VA
Bowman Consulting was retained under a Fairfax County Stormwater Division Task Order Contract to provide multiple drainage improvement projects in the Little Hunting Creek Watershed.
Scope of services included establishing vertical and horizontal control using GPS for aerial topography while annotate topography was prepared by a cartographer. Bowman Consulting team of field surveyors were tasked to fill in aerial topography in areas to dense for aerial methods using conventional methods and meld topographies together. Additionally, as-built storm sewer and sanitary sewer surveys were performed along with the preparation of easement plats. All data was compiled and a base sheet was created for engineering applications. The project also included civil engineering design to correct existing problem drainage areas such as the Derek Road drainage improvements.
After evaluating the site and the problem area, Bowman Consulting proposed alternate potential solutions along with conceptual cost estimates. Task orders included multiple low-impact-development (LID) retrofits of existing facilities in the watershed.
Bowman Consulting coordinated extensively with the following Fairfax County sites, along Little Hunting Creek, who were affected by this work:
- Bucknell Elementary School Park
- Carl Sandburg Middle School
- Collingwood Park
- Fort Hunt Elementary School
- Hybla Valley School
- Sherwood Hall Regional Library
Currently, Bowman Consulting is developing conceptual LID plans and subsequently final design documents for the retrofits. Bowman Consulting is also developing graphical presentation boards for signage or LID concepts as requested by the Stormwater Planning Division.
